Same sex marriage was legalized across Canada by the Civil Marriage Act enacted on July 20th, 2005. You can now be legally wed in Canada and do not need to be a resident of this country.

Prior to being married you will need an Alberta Marriage license obtained from an Alberta Registry office. It is valid for three months from the date of issue.

To obtain the license both partners must be present and submit the following documents:

Once you are legally married you will receive a “Certificate of Marriage” with the official certificate to follow in the mail.

Congratulations!

This day is one to celebrate your rights as a gay person to legally wed in the province of Alberta, Canada.

We look forward to celebrating with you.
